Jeremy Strohmeyer Trial (09/03/1998)
The defense is still battling at every turn in the Jeremy Strohmeyer trial. They want to keep computer evidence out of this trial because it could be very damaging. The defense doesn't want the seven men and five women on the jury to hear about the hundreds of pornographic pictures and internet chat police found on Strohmeyer's computer. (ROLL VO) Prosecutors say it proves Strohmeyer planned to rape and kill a little girl. Seven year old Sherrice Iverson died in a Primm Casino Bathroom last year after playing in the arcade with Strohmeyer. During arguments today, prosecutors detailed a little more of their case and the evidence they say will send the nineteen year old to the death chamber. SOT: Peggy Leen/Prosecutor) "30 hours before this killing, the defendant is talking on line saying I fantasize about having sex with five and six year olds all the time. You don't need an expert to know what that means, neither does the jury." (VO CONTINUES) The judge gave the defense three thousand dollars to testify and challenge the state's allegations. That brings the bill to taxpayers up to fifty thousand dollars for the defense. The trial will begin Tuesday and is expected to last about 6 weeks.
