From 1968 to 1994, Cavett interviewed legendary musicians, actors, directors, comedians, sports icons, politicians, journalists and activists. He also booked controversial and opinionated guests such as Gore Vidal, William F Buckley, Truman Capote, Norman Mailer, James Baldwin, Susan Brownmiller, and Lester Maddox.
Cavett’s shows often highlighted heated debates between guests on heated topics such as the Vietnam War, The Watergate Scandal, Civil Rights, pornography, and Women's Liberation.
The Courtney Harmel Collection
Video artist and filmmaker Courtney Harmel was a key player in New York's downtown video scene, producing work that documented the ‘No Wave’ retail and performance culture of the mid-1980s through the 2000s.
Covering legendary theme nights such as the "Andy and Edie Show," "Mermaids on Heroin," "The June Brides Show," "Disco Hospital," and the "Fellini Party," at places like Fiorucci, Danceteria, the Pyramid Club, and Limelight, Harmel produced an indelible record of a creative community at play in the darkening shadow of AIDS.

Wealthy Black Communities 1920s
This rare and unique film collection documents the daily lives of Guthrie, Muskogee, and Langston, Oklahoma - all successful middle class African American towns thriving in the aftermath of the infamous Tulsa Riots of 1921 illustrating a little known piece of history.
The footage shows these successful black communities visiting one another's country homes, parading through downtown Muskogee in some two dozen Packards, going to church, a National Baptist Convention, European vacations, black cowboys riding horses amidst oil derricks on their ranches, various sporting events including rare footage of the 1928 Los Angeles to New York "Great American Foot Race" in which three of the finishing runners were black Americans.
Gritty selections of crime scenes, drug busts, and arrest footage from our archive bring to life the New York of the 70s and 80s. This incredible footage—shot by freelance videographers with unfettered access—captures the inner workings of the NYPD during an era when the city appeared to be on the brink of collapse.

It also includes footage of ambulance crews rushing the injured to hospitals, firefighters contending with record-high arson rates, and city mortuary technicians transporting the least fortunate crime victims.
