NFB Images Joins Footage.net, the Stock Footage Search Engine
NFB Images of the National Film Board of Canada, widely known for its high quality, pristinely preserved archival and contemporary footage of Canada and the world, has added its entire footage database to Footage.net’s stock footage search platform. The move greatly expands NFB Image’s reach and visibility in the $282-million worldwide footage marketplace and significantly enhances Footage..net’s value to the global production community.
Montréal – November 10, 2009 – NFB Images (www.nfb.ca/images), the footage licensing division of The National Film Board of Canada, and Footage.net (www.footage.net), the stock footage search engine, announced today that NFB Images has added its entire English database to the Footage.net search platform.
“We could not be happier to have NFB Images as part of our stock footage search engine,” said Footage.net president, Domenick Propati. “At Footage.net, we’re focused on making footage research as simple and efficient as possible. The addition of one of the world’s most important archival and contemporary footage collections to the Footage.net search platform will greatly enhance our ability to help footage users discover the world’s best motion content as quickly and easily as possible.”
The NFB Images database, which includes fully searchable text records, as well as video clips, will now be available for search and screening through Footage.net alongside the other world-class collections currently hosted on the portal. Footage.net users will also be able to send Zap requests directly to the NFB Images sales team.

All NFB Images shots are carefully selected from award-winning documentary rushes. The footage available at the NFB Image website is characterized by long unedited takes, often shot by famous filmmakers, from the cinéma vérité and other movements throughout the decades. Eighty percent of the collection originated on either 16mm or 35mm film – perfect for transfer to today’s hi-quality HD productions.
Footage.net’s newly reengineered search engine returns results by relevance from over 30 major footage providers, allowing footage researchers to compare results across multiple collections, see who has the best motion content and save time. Footage.net’s advanced search functionality allows researchers to pinpoint shots by date, collection and/or category, or limit searches to clip-based results only. Footage.net currently receives over 25,000 unique visits per month.
