Description | Chevie Kehoe was back in court today in Wilmington, Ohio as the judge considers legal representation for him. He is one of the brothers charged in the video taped shootout with police February 15th, 1997 in Wilmington, Ohio. |
Script | One of the defendants in a police shootout caught on video tape last February, got a new attorney today during court proceedings in Wilmington, Ohio. That was expected as Chevie Kehoe was scheduled for a court appearance. The suprise today, was that his court appointed public defender asked that Kehoe be allowed to read a statment. (TAKE VIDEO) Kehoe was under heavy security as he was led to the Clinton County Courthouse for a hearing on who should represent him on charges he fired shots on state troopers and police offices last February... Kehoe and his brother Cheyne, then disappeared until their capture three months later. Chevie Kehoe had asked the court on Monday to have Earl Moore of Dayton, Ohio defend him. That was before an inmate in the jail where Kehoe's being held. offered to testify against Kehoe.. And since that man, Cameron Hawkins, is also Moore's client ... the attorney pulled out of both cases today. Kehoe called that a big disappointment. (SOUND UP - 00:31) (IN: "I am certainly ..." OUT: " ... this case.") (CONTINUE VOICE OVER) The prosecutor in the case says he's not sure whether he'll use Hawkin's testimony. As Kehoe was led from the courthouse, the attorney who excused himself re-iterated what he told reporters earlier this week ... that Kehoe says state troopers fired on him first during the shoot-out. (ANCHOR TAG) Moore also said he feels Kehoe will get a fair trial in Clinton County. The trial is set to start September 22nd. His brother Cheyne remains jailed in Washington state, fighting extradition to Ohio.` ---END--- |
