LEAD: Yesterday, Jeremy Strohmeyer was sentenced to life in prison, for murdering a 7-year old girl in a casino. Randy Paige reports. SCRIPT: Today's (Wednesday) sentencing gave those who've been silent in court their one and only time to speak. Sherrice Iverson's mother was the first to look Jeremy Strohmeyer in the eye. (SOT) It was the first time Sherrice Iverson's father, Leroy, had ever laid eyes on the man that killed his little girl. (SOT) The final chapter in the case against Jeremy Strohmeyer would be written by Jeremy himself... as the convicted murderer tried to answer the only question still unanswered... that is why? (SOT) Strohmeyer said he was in a drug and alcohol stupor when he came in contact with Sherrice Iverson in the Primadonna Casino that Memorial Day weekend. He says he remembers playing with Sherrice inside the women’s bathroom. (SOT) Strohmeyer said he was an honor student with a bright future just seven months before the murder. He blames his downward spiral on his genetics... his misdiagnosis at the hands of a psychiatrist... his abuse of drugs and alcohol... and his choice of friends. (SOT) Strohmeyer's adoptive parents and his sister sobbed in court as he thanked them for their support and begged for their forgiveness. (SOT)
